Who are You for Others?
At times, we forget that life is quietly building something within us with each experience we have.
Every obstacle, heartbreak, illness, relationship, and unexpected turn become profound tools for a fulfilling life. In the moment, these challenges can feel unsurmountable and earth rocking. Yet, all along the way we are building the power of experience. We learn that at some point, throughout it all, everything works out.
If we look back, how many of our stressful moments actually ended up smoothing out?
Think of something that once felt world-ending. Something that kept you awake at night. Something that consumed your energy and attention. Chances are, it eventually settled. In fact, it may have settled so completely that you barely remember why it felt so important in the first place.
There is wisdom in remembering.
Not because we should relive our struggles, but because our experiences remind us that our steadiness does not need to be shaken by the challenges that come our way. They remind us:
This too shall pass.
Our memories become evidence that we are capable of moving through challenges! The next time life feels heavy, lean in to remembering all that you have overcome. You will even find treasures of lessons along the way to use in conquering whatever comes next.
We can move through life more grounded and able to enjoy the warmth of a cup of coffee or tea on a beautiful morning. Soak in that hug from from your child a bit more. Feel the sweetness of a pet curled up at our feet with its nonjudgmental presence. Smile into the taste of our favorite foods.
The key is to allow experience to bloom into wisdom like a caterpillar becomes a butterfly.
BUT… that wisdom and peaceful blossoming is not just for us. No, sir. It is to be shared with our fellow Earth creatures.
The peace that comes from being on the other side of challenge is also the opportunity to stop and hold space for someone else struggling. We are on this Earth to help each other, to heal each other, to participate in the homeostasis (balance) of our fellow beings and the ecosystem we are all a part of.
The person who has known grief can sit with someone who is grieving. The person who has faced illness can offer comfort to someone who is afraid. The person who has survived hardship can become a reminder that hope still exists.
We are constantly becoming medicine for one another.
Sometimes that medicine looks like advice. More often, it looks like presence. Listening. Showing up. Understanding. A reminder that no one is alone no matter how messy life becomes.
Who are you for others?
You may not realize it, but someone needs the wisdom you've earned. Someone needs the compassion that grew from your own struggles. Someone needs the hope that only your story can offer.
Life can be difficult. But we were never meant to navigate it alone.
We each carry a collection of experiences, and when shared with love, there is a power that makes anything possible.
